Victory’s Open Letter About Transformers 2
Jun 23rd, 2009 by Danielson
This is a long post so you’re gonna have to hit the jump to read the full extract but Vic does have a valid point. Don’t forget to follow Victory, Komi, Mert Beats and myself on Twitter, which makes 1 dope rapper, 2 extremely talented producers and the freshman blogger who is taking over has taken over the UK blog game. You heard these four names here, remember that in 12 months.
“Ok, so I finished my exams on Friday and was free to leave the establishment I’ve been locked in for the last 7 years. I don’t drink and don’t get involved in any funky-house tom-foolery as… lets be series, it isn’t good music. I decided to hit the cinema for the first time in a while and pay for a movie, one that would only look good on a 40ft screen (and not my computer via watch-movies-*****.net). I decided to hit the blockbuster of the week, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. I’m not going to get into how average this movie is. Or their attempt to make the first hour a 2009 American Pie. Or most of it being one big advert. Let’s talk about the really messed up bits. The ones which cannot go unsaid… [Contains some spoilers]
Firstly, this movie is obviously targeted at children. Yes, people who grew up with the cartoon went to see it also, but around me in the cinema were more under 16’s than over. It is rated 12A for “moderate action violence, language, sex and drug references.” It should be banned for racism, sexism, legitimising drugs and being a really shitty movie. This is why:
The film features two transformers in the film called Mudflap and Skids who despite being red and green are the ghetto-est, most ignorant, most-racist-attempt-at-showing black-people-in-the-cinema I have seen since I was a little kid. I mean, come on. You can’t get away with that explicit racism. This is not the 1950’s and this isn’t a Disney movie. I thought we got over this? These characters are so most ghetto speaking and hooked on ebonics that I could not understand a lot of what they said. One of them had a gold tooth. A GOLD TOOTH! They couldn’t read, at all. When asked if they could read, the response was very much a “Me, read? No-siree. Me can’t read nuttin massuh.” It was like they picked them off a plantation. They were twins, and I do concede that siblings fight, but they were constantly fighting while exhibiting terms such as “bitch-ass” and “punk” while they were fighting for the last piece of chicken. If you were to also look at the CGI making of them, you can properly see their thick lips, wide nostrils and dopey eyes which look like they have been based on something from the KKK’s comic-strip. This was explicit and if anyone cannot see this, you need to get more sensitive because this was racist. This is a commonly agreed upon opinion shared by many people of all races on the internet and with people I spoke to outside and whom (check the grammar game yo!) went with. It was also one on the most painful movie’s I’ve ever had to see due to one hour of it being solely based on some robots and the United States military destroying MY stuff. Well, not mine but, the pyramids and temples of East Afrika which, in usual Hollywood history, they have accredited to Aliens building as it is way to far-fetched a theory that black people built them.
Also, the film featured things which were inappropriate for the large majority of the kids watching. Yes, it was a 12A, but it was marketed at them. For instance, the first time we see the over-rated Megan Fox, she is bending over, wearing denim hot-pants which show us her ass-cheeks. In another scene, when Shia La Bouf is being attacked in his room, the camera focuses a good 10 seconds on the panties of his attacker. Many people have agreed with the sexist overtones of this film and its regression into the pre-suffragist and suffragette movements.
Finally, the only attempt at comedy in this movie was when Shia’s mother got high when his parents dropped him off at university. She ran around causing a stir while telling people of when Shia lost his virginity. This got laughs from all of the little kids which had me disgusted. Is this what’s poppin’ now? Showing little kids that drugs are hilarious? I would not bet against one of those children in the cinema with me asking their parents for what made the woman act funny. This is one of the most morally messed up things I have seen in a while. Legitimising ILLEGAL drugs to children and making it appealing and funny is NOT cool, nor is it appropriate and is borderline illegal (I checked).
This film should be banned. If all the parts I named for war and hate crimes were taken out it would still only get a 5/10 from me. It reminded me that I could have watched it online for free and that the world is not yet equal. You can say that I’m too sensitive or that I’m reaching, or that I’m a weirdo (“Its just a movie. Chill. Enjoy yourself you prick.”) but I truly believe that certain parts of this were out of order.
With that said, I’m not like everybody else. Maybe I give too much of a shit. Maybe I should be making songs that would make my sister become a stripper or my mother hate me just so I can hit number one. The fact is, I care way too much and this is why a LOT of people don’t like me. Whatever happens, I will continue to make music that is written with the things I don’t agree with in mind. That doesn’t mean that I’m gonna preach in every song. I still make music that can bang in a club as much as N-Dubz can (Camden stand up!).
…I’m going on a rant. Im coming out with new music soon. ‘Back Again’ is being released as the first single soon. I can’t be bothered to proof read this. Shout out to Londontomk.com and make it a bookmark that you check whenever you log into your computer, he’s a good, hardworking blooger that appreciates music, not just sales.”
Peace and Love,
Victory
PS. Congrats to my producer Komi (Nile Music stand up!) who is gonna be working with the biggest camp in music soon.
Applaud this guy, not many people would of observed or been brave enough to say this. I mentioned this in the cinema to my friends and they shrugged it off saying it was merely just for comedy purposes. Really? If you think there are no racial undertones in that film you need to watch it again but this time, with this open letter in mind.

Jazz the “black” one from the first movie was a jive-talking, breakdancing robot and also the first Autobot to die. Obviously all the robots in the film are raceless and the majority are sterotypes picked up from the internet, but these characters have no positive attributes. The fact that black people can see traits of themselves in such illiterate childish characters is as much of a problem as their creation. Michael Bay wont get a pass for this he has used ethnic minority characters as punchlines for far too long.
I disagree with everything else Victory said. You cant ban a movie for things like this, Victory stays losing.

this is very true, but maybe its because we’ve been made to be the most racially conscious group due to all the fuckery our people have had to endure. I dunno. Be honest though, did you not spot any stereotyping with those characters?

^^^ American History X, This is England, American Pie, any James Bond film etc. weren’t banned for their racist and sexist content. These aspects dont take away from the artistic merit of the films. they offer a good view of popular media and general public opinion. “The Birth of a Nation” (film about the KKK) is generally considered the first Hollywood blockbuster despite its content.
“did you not spot any stereotyping with those characters?”
^^^ Yes I did and it took away from my enjoyment of the film. Along the same lines take away their accents and give them southern white ones (with no real change in character) and the majority have no problem laughing at stupid hillbilies.
